Avant Garde artists where exploring art in a more modern way because of the modernisation of the cities between the 19th and the 20th century. This modernity of life was never more evident than in the city of Paris. Which was seen as the epicentre of modernism. These art movements which were reflecting and expressing the new modern way of living was the art movements of ‘expressionism, cubism and Futurism’

Modernisation had a impact on the people of that era both social and cultural, with growing concerns that the people were being governed by the machine and loosing a sense of life..
